As part of the international DRESSED conference (22-24.6.2022), the BMBF-funded InnoTexGes project presents the "Design Research Lab Experiment" Photo Exhibition. The Exhibition is about a sustainable mono-material collection, developed by modernly adapting innovative ancient resource-efficient production techniques from the 1st mill BC in Xinjiang, Eastern Central Asia. Sustainably produced clothes and intelligent production processes are becoming more and more relevant. Today, however, clothing construction is usually done by fixed construction systems or templates in the standardised production processes. In the Design Research Lab experiment, design students creatively reinterpreted Xinjiang's newly discovered ancient construction principles. Therefore, they modernly adapted the innovative resource-efficient approach and tested how this would influence the design process. Together, they developed a modern mono-material collection to combine with other clothing items in everyday life. The Design Research Lab experiment is the first attempt worldwide to adapt these ancient but ingenious techniques in a very modern way and to implement them experimentally. Moreover, the resulting sustainable mono-material collection is even biodegradable with suitable materials.
