22 May 2025, 12.00 - 13.00 pm | Online via Zoom
The event will focus on a lecture by Sylvia Amann, Director of inforelais and internationally recognised expert on cultural development and creative industries policy. Under the title "Context and Dimensions of (Culture) Policies to Strengthen European Democracy", she will explore the question of how cultural policy can actively contribute to strengthening democratic societies in Europe.
Europe is currently facing major challenges: Polarisation, social division and the growing influence of right-wing populist forces are endangering the continent's democratic foundations. At the same time, cultural spaces and actors are increasingly coming into focus when it comes to promoting social dialogue, shaping diversity and strengthening trust in democratic processes.
In her presentation, Sylvia Amann will shed light on how cultural policy can be shaped at European level in order to support sustainable and inclusive democratic structures. She will show how cultural institutions, as so-called "third places", can offer spaces for exchange, participation and social negotiation - and what political course needs to be set for this.
The event is aimed at actors from culture, politics, administration and civil society who want to explore the potential of cultural policy for a democratic future in Europe.
