Borders, policing, criminal courts: Anti-racist perspectives

In the recent years’ discussions about police violence and racism in Germany, the everyday practices of state violence at the intersection of precarious immigration status, policing and criminal punishment received less attention. This event discusses the question of how asylum seekers, persons under suspended deportation (Duldung) and other precarious migrants encounter the police and criminal courts in Germany and Bavaria and what possibilities there are for intervention. Aino Korvensyrjä, PhD researcher at the University of Helsinki and currently Fellow at CHREN - Centre for Human Rights Nuremberg-Erlangen, presents findings from her research, court watching and case accompaniment with black migrants in Bavaria. Documentation for victims of right-wing, racist and anti-Semitic violence) and ISD Nuremberg - Initiative Black People in Germany, each provide a commentary on their work in Bavaria.
